The seasonal emergence of trillium, jack-in-the-pulpits and Dutchmans breeches tend to overshadow another Michigan wildflower known to attract bears and repel vampires.

Traipsing through Michigan woodlands in search of ramps also called wild leek and bear leek, is worth an encounter with bears although thats highly unlikely.

In Michigan, green-leaved colonies of allium tricoccum, which look similar to lily of the valley, cover woodlands starting in May.

Today we are pleased to spotlight Chicago based design firm, Jetset Designs. They were contacted for their interior design services by a client renting an apartment in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood. The clients decor consisted of hand-me-downs, slip-covered chairs in the living room, no dining room furniture, and a small budget. Despite all of these limitations, the ingenious individuals at Jetset Designs were able to transform this apartment into something as elegant as it is livable.

When it comes to the creation of a great room, the open floor plan is one idea that evolved years ago and has actually come to stay. With the period of 1950s and 1960s, it was common to compartmentalize rooms and in most cases, the rooms are centered off the main building hallway thereby making every room and the activities going on there to be isolated from other rooms. This trend however has changed with the emergence of the new floor plans in the 1980s. With this particular trend, rooms are no longer compartmentalized but are rather designed to flow from one room to the other.

Mastro Work Table for De Castelli

Conceived by Italian Studio Gum Design, Mastro is a furniture piece whose formal structure is derived from of old work tables and benches found in a craftsmans workshop. Are you concerned about the environment and want to make sure you only buy products that are made in an environmentally responsible manner?You can buy wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council with confidence. The only certify wood harvested in a manner that maintains or improves the environment.

Right now, everyone claims to be “green”. Doing so is easy because the tern is not regulated by the government. There are nongovernmental groups, however, that carefully inspect and certify products ads being environmentally sound. The Forest Stewardship council is one of them.
