One need not be a trained, master plumber with fully stocked supply shed in order to be prepared for some of the basic eventualities. Plumbing repairs happen. Having proper supplies on hand can save money and grief in the long run.

In addition to the top safety supplies one should have at home, there are a few tools which should be added to the home plumber’s toolbox.
- Pipe Wrench: At a minimum, at least one adjustable, heavy leaded pipe wrench should be a part of ones tool set. Better is having a large as well as a small. F

Built on the seashore of Iporanga beach, on the north coast of São Paulo and amidst the Atlantic Forest, Iporanga house was designed for a family of Arab ancestry and is surrounded by vegetation – coconut trees, bromeliads and other indigenous plants from the region. There was no significant restriction – whether technical or legal – to the project and construction of this house. Yet, naturally, the geographic and natural context the house is set in warranted great attention, and guided the location of the house on the land, the organization of the program and the use of materials.

This time of year outdoor projects seem to multiply. There’s the last pressure washing session to clean up after summer and get ready for winter, cleaning off the deck and storing the lawn furniture, and fertilizing the lawn (if the grass type allows). Branch Home always has interesting eco-friendly, sustainable goodies on their site. This seating combo from Kalon Studios caught my eye. Inspired by trees, it’s made in Gardner, MAss., once known as the chair capital of the world. Where the community once supported 5,000 craftspeople, it now has fewer than 350. By locating in Gardner, Kalon Studios is making an effort to revitalize a community. Stump, the small stools, is inspired by the original sitting stool — a tree stump.
